Rolls-Royce SUV Details: Roller’s Crown Jewel Announced
Coming late to the party doesn’t necessarily mean that the upcoming Rolls-Royce SUV won’t be a success. In a well-tailored open letter, Mr. Schwarzenbauer (Rolls-Royce chairman) and Mr. Müller-Ötvös (Rolls-Royce CEO) have announced the latest addition to the British luxury brand’s range and probably a big gamechanger for the luxury SUV market niche. As expected, they haven’t said anything revealing yet – several generic points which can help us imagine what they intend to do. The information about the new Rolls-Royce SUV is very scarce. However, we’ve managed to find out more about the new luxury SUV.
But, first things first – the new luxury utility vehicle will rely on aluminum underpinning, rich heritage and top-notch design. The automaker announced that the all-new aluminum architecture will support the body of the new SUV, but they haven’t said anything more, except that the new 4×4 vehicle will be able to “cross any terrain”. They reassured us that, in spite of the fact that this is going to be an SUV, something completely different, the new vehicle won’t diverge from the recognizable Rolls-Royce’s luxury spirit. Every (or almost every) SUV must be more robust, rougher and tougher than sedan or coupe counterparts. It seems that with the Rolls-Royce SUV this won’t be the case.
If we can imagine the new SUV, it will keep a recognizable Rolls-Royce style. There are people which already argued that the contemporary Rolls-Royce design has been conservative for a while, petrified in self-indulgence, and that there’s no way it can be a sufficient source of inspiration for the new model. It’s true that Rolls-Royce appreciates elegance and luxury above all, so their cars look classically fashionable no matter the model year.
If you expect an overexpressive SUV which should shock and awe, the new Rolls-Royce SUV might not be the best choice for you. But if you’re looking for an elegant, highly-stylized vehicle, something extraordinary, beluga caviar of the automotive world – and you have sufficient fund, or course – you’d probably consider waiting for this chunk of history.
The first Rolls-Royce SUV will, according to the automaker, appropriately reflect Rolls-Royce’s brand promise of effortless luxury. Although poetic, this promise is rather true. Judging by the open letter, they’re pretty enthusiastic with this project. And why wouldn’t they be? This is something exciting and new.
They said that “many discerning customers have urged” them to create the SUV. This means that they already have an idea of how many units can be sold immediately. But even if they weren’t so calculated, the mere fact that the great Rolls-Royce has released an SUV would be enough to boost the sales by an impressive percent.
According to the Autocar article, the SUV has the codename Cullinan. Perhaps the name has been carefully chosen to depict the importance and value this project has for the automaker, since the Cullinan is the largest gem-quality diamond ever found and it adorns the Crown Jewels of the United Kingdom. However, this probably won’t be the final name of the SUV.
As you probably know, Bentley is going to release their Bentayga SUV soon and this announcement might be the rain on their parade, but considering the luxury vehicle market, those two would probably harm some of the lower-class luxury SUVs together.
Autocar found out in a conversation with Mr. Müller-Ötvös that the new SUV is coming in 2017.
