Pentastar V6 Improvements: More Power and Better Fuel Economy
The latest Automotive News report said that the famous FCA Group’s Pentastar V6 engine is going to be improved. Following the current trends in the industry and having to meet the new fuel economy regulations, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will update the Pentastar V6 in order to get more power, better fuel economy and lower emissions from an engine with more modest displacement. Since the Pentastar V6 is an engine which is used across the automaker’s range, there will be numerous vehicles that will feel the change once they install it. According to the report which refers to an unnamed source, the engine will be boosted by a turbocharger and direct fuel injection. They will also upgrade its variable valve timing, so the changes will affect both the power output and EPA fuel economy ratings.
New Pentastar V6 Will Be Installed in 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee
The first upgraded unit is expected to be nested beneath the hood of the upcoming 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee which should be launched by the end of 2015. Of course, nobody can say anything about the engine’s specs at the moment, but there’s no doubt that the new Grand Cherokee will be drastically improved. It’s known that it will be a 3.6-liter V6 Pentastar.
Improved Fuel Economy of 2017 Chrysler Town & Country
After the SUV’s release, the automaker will install the upgraded Pentastar V6 in numerous other models. One of those will be the new 2017 Chrysler Town & Country which is going to be released sometimes in 2016. Reportedly, they will use a 3.2-liter V6 Pentastar which will replace the current 3.6-liter V6. With all the other changes the redesigned minivan will have, the next generation of the Town & Country will have more than 25 better fuel economy ratings.
Would Improved Efficiency Come With More Power?
There will be a long line of Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge and Ram models with improved fuel economy. But, how about power? Will the upgrade of the Pentastar engine result in more efficient and more powerful vehicles?
Of course, there’s no information about possible power output and other specs of the improved Pentastar V6 engines. Since they’re trying to improve the engine in more than one way, it would be great if they manage to improve its fuel economy with just slight power boost. They will certainly make a significant upturn in the engine’s power output. The Pentastar V6 is a great engine and who knows how much power it can deliver with right improvements.
