Honda Civic Type R Coming to Geneva. How About USA?
The upcoming 2015 Geneva Motor Show will host the premiere of the new Honda Civic Type R. The performance hatchback will be, of course, a European model. Although there’s no official confirmation about a possible U.S. launch, the fact that the Civic Type R test mule has been spotted in Ohio encourages us.
The Honda Civic Type R will be motivated by a new turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. This mill is coming with VTEC (Variable Timing and Lift Electronic Control).
Aside from the teaser video which announces the premiere of the Civic Type R, we have very limited information about the new hot hatch. The automaker said that this model will be “the most extreme Type R ever built”.
New advanced underpinning will contribute to the car’s performance. Judging by the automaker’s statement, this could be something really big. They said that the Honda Civic Type R will – thanks to the new underpinning – be able to “deliver one of the most immersive and rewarding driving experiences available in any sector”. They also hinted that the hatchback will have “aggressive function-led styling”.
The Civic Type R will certainly be very attractive, but at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show they will also introduce the Honda NSX. The Honda NSX is the European counterpart of the Acura NSX which is exactly the same, except of the brand badging. At the Honda stand in Geneva, there will also be the Honda HR-V and the Honda Jazz, which are going to be introduced ahead of their European market releases.
There’s no indication that the Civic Type R might come to the American market. The Geneva premiere just indicates that they’re focused on the European market, but having in mind that they made road tests in the U.S., perhaps we could say that our wishes have been answered after one of the biggest American autoshows this year.
