Cadillac Small SUV Release: At Least 4 Years of Waiting
The all-new Cadillac small SUV won’t be on the roads anytime soon. According to the Reuters crossover won’t be released in, at least, four years.
Cadillac president Johan de Nysschen said this on Thursday at the Washington Auto Show.
In order to revive the famous luxury brand, they have to offer a number of different vehicles that must be very competitive. Their plan might seem pretty straightforward – they’re going to manufacture eight new models within the next five years. This twelve billion dollar plan should reestablish the brand’s presence within various market segments.
Currently, they offer the Escalade and the mid-size SRX. The new crossover will be placed below the SRX, whose name is expected to be changed to the Cadillac XT5. Following the new naming scheme, the all-new small crossover might be called the Cadillac XT3.
Since the automaker’s intention is to distribute new Cadillac vehicles all around the world, this decision will affect the American lineup. They’re going to roll-out new models for the European market, thus inevitably manufacturing diesel-powered vehicles. Since the Cadillac’s global expansion will partially rely on diesel models, there’s no reason why they wouldn’t offer those stateside.
Having in mind that, according to the TopSpeed SUV might use a rear-wheel-drive platform, this could be one of the most important comparative advantages. There’s a number of luxury compact and subcompact crossovers, but rear-wheel drive is something really extraordinary.
Of course, it’s still too early to talk about the vehicle’s specifics, since we don’t even know the exact model year, but it’s clear that they have to offer something really special in order to compete with already well-established rivals.
There are numerous rivals on the market already. Imagine what can happen in four or more years. That’s why the automaker has to offer something different, something upscale and attractive. Having this in mind, perhaps it would pay off if we wait for the all-new Cadillac small SUV.
The current SRX starts at around $35,500. The new small SUV must be more affordable, but they have to maintain the same luxury level (if not higher since the new vehicle will come within, at least, four years). Of course, we can’t estimate the price at this point, but we wouldn’t be surprised if the smallest vehicle within the Cadillac SUV range starts at approximately $30,000.
Having a Cadillac SUV for $30,000 might be something to look forward to for so many people.
