Audi Electric Vehicles: Two Models by 2018

The Audi range will be enhanced by two electric vehicles soon. According to the Carscoops report, Rupert Stadler, Audi CEO, said that there will be two electric vehicles by 2018 and that they’re going to invest two billion euros in further development of electric drive powertrains and digital technologies.

One of the announced electric vehicles will be a sports car. In other words, this could be an electric version of the Audi R8. This way, the Ingolstadt-based company will join the most prominent automakers that are capable of manufacturing a performance electric vehicle. The Audi R8 EV performance coupe will compete with the Tesla Model S, the BMW i8 and other advanced EVs.

The other Audi EV will be an SUV. The Tesla Model X competitor will have an impressive range longer than 310 miles. Of course, the electric crossover’s performance can only be assumed at the moment, but having in mind that the electric powertrain will have such a long driving range, there’s no doubt they’re going to take care of all the aspects of the performance.

After this announcement, we’re sure that the near future will be very interesting in the EV market segment. There are some very interesting green models which have been already announced.

Since more and more automakers are going down that road, the EV market niche will grow in the next several years, offering some very attractive vehicles. With the latest advancements in the EV field, the future electric vehicles are expected to be very severe rivals to the well-established hybrids and fuel cell vehicles.
