New Audi 3D Sound System Debuts with 2016 Audi Q7
The latest addition to the Audi SUV range, the new 2016 Audi Q7 will come with an advanced 3D Bang & Olufsen sound system. This upscale system has been developed in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits based in Erlangen, Germany. The 3D sound system, as its name suggests, brings the third dimension to the quality of sound. That way, the occupants inside the SUV’s cabin will be able to experience an extraordinary feel the system provides with its 11 channels and 23 speakers.
The system has a complex algorithm which calculates the control signals for every speaker. The first stage of developing the system’s 3D sound is determining spatial components of the recording. This means that the system will try to understand the environment in the original recording and it will use this data for the process.
In the second segment, the system will emit the sound inside the cabin of the 2016 Audi Q7. It will reproduce the exact acoustic effect following the mathematical model of the original recording. This way, the occupants will have an impression of 3D sound. Although it sounds complicated – and it actually is – the system does this instantly and it can work with tunes from internet streaming, FM radio, CD and, of course, higher-quality recordings.
The system, as we already said, uses 23 speakers and 11 channels. Its main advantage is located at the A-pillars, where four speakers are mounted at different heights. Those speakers provide the amazing 3D sound effect.
As we already said, the 2016 Audi Q7 will come with the 23-speaker Bang & Olufsen 3D system, but the Bavarian automaker will also offer a more affordable 20-speaker Bose version.
