2018 Toyota Camry New Generation — Is It worth Waiting For?
The redesigned 2018 Toyota Camry will come with essentially different features. Since the new generation’s release has been delayed due to the delay of the TNGA platform, the new Camry will probably come sometime during 2017 as a 2018 model. The mere fact that there’s still a lot of time until the release means that the information about the 2018 Camry is too deficient for any firm conclusions. What’s known is that the redesigned sedan will be built on the new TNGA platform; it will have its engine lineup improved and probably a slightly larger body. It’s questionable whether they’re going to really make the 2018 Toyota Camry bigger. Nobody can say that it’s impossible, since the mid-size sedan will get a new architecture which can provide size changes, but even if they do, we don’t think that the redesigned Camry will be drastically larger than the current one.
New Style and Possible Size Increase
The current model’s updated exterior design is really handsome. Since the sedan has a refreshed appearance it will probably stay at the top of the America’s favorites until the redesign. Having in mind that the current Camry has a factor X, as well as its predecessor, there’s no doubt that Toyota will do anything to keep this level of popularity. That’s why we don’t expect dramatic exterior changes. Instead of some bold experiments, we expect an elaborate thought-out evolutionary redesign which will make the 2018 Camry modern and attractive, but at the same time won’t diverge from the basic principles of the sedan’s style. The TNGA platform, which is a new architecture developed using lightweight materials to provide better underpinning and to improve the car’s performance, might come with slightly different proportions. Nothing’s official yet, but the 2018 Toyota Camry might grow a little bit. Also, the wheelbase could be longer, which would affect the Camry’s performance and comfort. It’s been rumored that the 2018 Camry, due to the vast use of lightweight materials for the TNGA platform, could have fuel economy drastically improved.
2018 Toyota Camry Engine Lineup Changes
As we mentioned earlier, the 2018 Toyota Camry will have some powertrain improvements. Of course, it’s hard to say anything with a hundred percent certainty at this stage of development. However, the speculations are that the 2018 Camry will have the current V6 engine replaced. Its engine lineup will consist of only two four-cylinder engines. The current 2.5-liter four-cylinder will be kept as the base engine option. Installed in the current generation it delivers 178 horsepower and 170 lb-ft of twist. Reportedly, the new generation’s version will have noticeably higher power output. The new four-cylinder, which will replace the current V6, is going to be more powerful. It’s a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder mill that generates 235 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. It’s true that the current 3.5-liter V6 delivers more power (268 horsepower and 248 lb-ft of torque), but the fuel economy can’t be compared. With the new engine and the platform weight saving, the 2018 Toyota Camry is expected to have fuel economy improved by 30 percent. If they manage to make this happen, the 2018 model year may become the bestselling Camry ever. Also, less weight means better performance, so don’t be surprised if the performance specs of the new 2018 Toyota Camry come to be better in spite of the power decrease and improved fuel efficiency.
Is 2018 Toyota Camry Worth Waiting For?
The 2018 Toyota Camry won’t be available soon. The expectations are that it’s going to be released during 2017, but it might be worth waiting for. Although the information about the redesigned new generation is lacking, we can already anticipate how impressive the new Camry will be.
