2018 Buick Regal Impressions: Secrets Revealed
The next-gen 2018 Buick Regal has been spotted and we’re delighted. Although there were some hints about possible body changes, the fact that the 2018 Regal has been enlarged promises other improvements, too. The latest addition to the Buick lineup is speculated to have more than just a sedan version. Also, some radical changes within the engine department, redesigned interior, substantial technology and comfort improvements, and the return of the GS model are going to make the 2018 Buick Regal more attractive than ever once they release it in 2017.
The body of the 2018 Regal suffered some changes thanks to the E2XX platform. This architecture provided longer wheelbase, as it was the case with the 2016 Malibu, the Regal’s not-so-distant cousin. This change won’t only result in more comfortable cabin, but will also provide improved stability, smoother ride and better driving characteristics in general.
Redesign: New Body and Expected Design Language for 2018 Regal
Although they’re going to offer the new Regal as a four-door sedan, there were some rumors about a possible notchback option. This body type wouldn’t be too demanding to make, since the Regal’s overseas counterpart – the Opel Insignia (Vauxhall Insignia in Great Britain) – is pretty successful as a notchback. Also, the 2018 Buick Regal might be offered in the U.S. and China as a wagon, too, following the Opel Insignia Sport Tourer’s design. It’s not clear how this is going to affect the 2018 Holden Commodore, the version for Australia and New Zealand.
As for the exterior design changes, the 2018 Regal is going to look closely related to the 2017 Buick LaCrosse. Of course, spreading the same design language across the entire lineup isn’t anything new, but there are going to be some differences, too. The next-gen Regal won’t significantly diverge from the recognizable brand’s style – this means: distinctive waterfall grille, more aggressive headlights and front bumper – but the shape of its body will be different. Although it’s a full-blooded sedan from the platform up, the new Regal’s body design will be closer to a notchback look than we initially expected.
2018 Buick Regal Engine Lineup Changes
We can’t say much about the car’s powertrain at this moment. Everything is still a well-kept secret, but we do know that they might have prepared a couple of surprises. First of all, the 2018 Regal is probably going to offer a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder LFV EcoTec engine as the base variant. This mill delivers 163 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque to the wheels of the Chevy Malibu.
Under the hood of the redesigned Regal they will probably install a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder EcoTec LTG engine. Currently, this engine motivates the Cadillac ATS, where it generates 272 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, and the Chevrolet Malibu, whose wheels get 259 horsepower and the same amount of twist. All the engine options will probably be paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Interior Changes: Luxury Reloaded
The interior of the new Buick Regal will suffer a total redesign. Although they haven’t said anything about it yet, the cabin will get a completely new look with updated quality materials. The car’s technology will be updated, too, so the next generation is going to be treated with the latest IntelliLink infotainment system as well as the latest driver assistance, convenience and safety systems.
2018 Buick Regal GS Rumors
This is something that will make the new Regal stand out on the market. The performance GS version of the car is going to act as a flagship within the particular moniker. Although we don’t know its specs yet (we heard that it could have around 300 horsepower and 300 lb-ft), the mere fact that the new Regal GS will be offered makes us grin. This isn’t just a clever marketing move, but it’s a cool way to show respect to the customers and the brand itself.
Price and Release: 2018 Regal Won’t Be Expensive
Take this as a rough estimate, but the 2018 Buick Regal base price shouldn’t be higher than $35,000. Of course, having a Tri-Shield car comes with a price, so this is going to be the entry version, which might or might not offer everything you want. As for the release, although the car could hit the market sooner, it will probably be in the showrooms mid-2017.
