2018 BMW 6-Series Redesign Will Bring Substantial Changes
The redesigned 2018 BMW 6-Series will come improved in numerous ways. Although the current model is still pretty appealing and the updated model will be introduced at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, the new generation will come with substantial changes which are going to make the 2018 6-Series more attractive than it is now. As you’ve probably guessed, the Bavarian grand tourer will come in two variants – as a regular BMW 6-Series model and as a performance BMW M6 coupe. They will also continue the tradition of three body types, so the 2018 BMW 6-Series will have its coupe, convertible and Gran Coupe versions. As for the changes, they will really be elaborate and improving. According to the Car’s report, the coupe’s body will be lighter and more aerodynamic. While the entry version will be powered by a 374-bhp 3.0-liter inline-six, the highest 2018 BMW M6 will have a bi-turbo 4.4-liter V8 which delivers around 600 bhp.
2018 BMW 6-Series Body Changes
The bodywork will be changed in various ways. The appearance is expected to be altered to express the car’s grand tourer side. It’s supposed to be bolder, with sharper lines and more pronounced aggressiveness. The Gran Coupe will have longer wheelbase, and probably increased overall length, as opposed to the coupe and convertible versions. However, all the versions will have significantly improved bodies. Reportedly, the 2018 BMW 640i and the 2018 BMW 640d will be approximately 500 pounds lighter. This way, the entry model will have around 3,450 pounds. The convertible will come with nearly 3,750 pounds. Since the 2018 BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe will be larger than before, it’s not clear whether it could save some weight in comparison with the current model.
The automaker will use a new architecture for the next-gen 6-Series. Thanks to the new CLAR platform, they will be able to shave some weight. Furthermore, the M6 will get an active aero kit which will be available on other models as an option.
2018 BMW 6-Series Engines
As for the powertrain, the 2018 BMW 6-Series will have a very interesting engine range. The 2018 BMW 640i will have the aforementioned 3.0-liter inline-six with 347 bhp. The entry diesel 2018 BMW 640d will be powered by a 3.0-liter inline-six diesel mill that’s good for 333 bhp. The more powerful gasoline option will be the 2018 BMW 650i with a 4.4-liter V8 rated at 476 bhp. At the top of the range, the 2018 BMW M6 will have, like we already said, the bi-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine which delivers 600 bhp.
When Will New BMW 6-Series Be Released?
The redesigned new generation of the 2018 BMW 6-Series will be released sometime during 2017 as a 2018 model.
