2017 GMC Granite Big News: It’s Coming!
The 2017 GMC Granite might become reality. At this point we couldn’t say whether the American automaker decided to go with a vehicle based on the GMC Granite CPU Concept rather than the GMC Granite Concept, but there are opinions that support both stands. If they decide to launch the all-new 2017 Granite as the latest addition to the GMC lineup, we believe that the new compact vehicle is going to be released as a 2017 model.
The truth is that GM has submitted a trademark filing for the Granite nameplate with the US Patent and Trademark Office as the Left Lane News article said. Of course, this doesn’t mean that they’re certainly going to introduce something called the GMC Granite in the near future. However, some of the industry insiders said that this might be a real deal.
GMC Granite Concept: Inception of the Idea
Back in 2010 General Motors introduced the GMC Granite Concept, a compact crossover with robust futuristic exterior design and cozy interior. Later that year, they displayed the GMC Granite CPU concept, a compact pickup truck that came with equally attractive appearance. There were even some reports that claimed how the GMC Granite is a done deal and the cute little crossover is going to hit the showrooms. That’s why we must be cautious now.
GMC Granite Release Date
The fact that they’ve renewed the trademark registration means that they haven’t abandoned the plans about the Granite, but it also ignited a spark of imagination of GMC fans. Some rumors say that the 2017 Granite is very real and that GM could show the first concept as soon as next year at the Detroit Auto Show.
It’s not really that hard doing something like that. The Detroit-based automotive giant has everything it needs for developing yet another vehicle using just the elements of the existing models.
2017 GMC Granite Market Position
It might be interesting if they decide to launch the 2017 GMC Granite as a small crossover because they already have a lot of similar vehicles in their portfolio. Although it seems like a paradox, dispersing various vehicles means increasing probability that you’re going to choose one of their models within a particular segment.
On the other hand, if they decide to release the 2017 GMC Granite truck, this means that the good looking Hyundai Santa Cruz is not safe anymore. A compact truck would be a worthy addition to the GM’s portfolio.
In the end, the 2017 GMC Granite might actually be a Chevrolet Bolt rival – bold, stylish and affordable.
Conclusion: Is 2017 GMC Granite Myth or Truth?
We have to wait in order to find out whether some of the speculations were completely true, but it seems that next year we’re going to meet a new member of the GMC family.
