2016 Toyota Tacoma Changes: New Truck with Old Spirit
If you’d like to say in a single sentence what are the most important changes of the 2016 Toyota Tacoma, you’d probably mention a completely revised exterior, a new V6 mill under the hood and an improved interior. This mid-size truck, of course, has a number of other novelties, but those are the biggest ones.
Introduced at this year’s Detroit Auto Show, the 2016 Tacoma follows the same path its predecessors have already set and improves the Toyota truck range even further. This pickup truck is expected to be a really severe competitor to the Chevy Colorado and the GMC Canyon.
Using ultra-high-strength steel for the truck’s body, the automaker clearly stated that the 2016 Tacoma is expected to be tougher than before. The truck’s rough approach doesn’t mean that it’s not comfortable inside its cabin. They tuned the suspension in order to provide better behavior on the road, but also to make the truck “even more capable once it hits the dirt.”
2016 Toyota Tacoma Engines and Transmissions
The 2016 Toyota Tacoma is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine, a great improvement that comes with the all-new model. The Atkinson cycle V6 D-4S engine can be mated with a new six-speed manual or a new six-speed automatic transmission.
They haven’t revealed the truck’s fuel economy at the 2015 NAIAS, but they said that the 2016 Tacoma will be the most powerful and the most fuel efficient ever.
Aside from the new V6, the automaker also offers a 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine. Just as the V6, this four-banger can be paired with both a manual and an automatic gearbox. While those two will share the six-speed automatic transmission, the four-cylinder could be mated with a five-speed manual.
Exterior and Interior
The exterior is a fresh interpretation of the traditional Tacoma design. Needless to say, the new style is modern and attractive with lots of interesting details.
Inside the cabin of the 2016 Tacoma, they updated the interior with a new dashboard.
2016 Toyota Tacoma Trims
Exactly like the predecessors, the new Tacoma is coming in five trims: SR, SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road and Limited.
The off-road versions will be equipped with a suitable suspension and a Multi-Terrain Select system which allows the truck to adapt to different off-road surfaces. There’s also a limited-slip and locking rear differential and a number of other features that are very useful for off-road escapades – hill start assist, Crawl Control system and advanced traction control.
One of the most interesting features is a GoPro mount. All the adventurers can mount a GoPro camera near the rearview mirror. Although just a minor detail, this feature actually reveals how much they thought about the 2016 Toyota Tacoma.
New Information Soon
At this point, we can’t say much more about the new mid-size truck, but the automaker will reveal new details soon.
