2016 Toyota Avensis Refresh As Farewell — Goodbye, Old Friend

The refresh of the 2016 Toyota Avensis will probably be the last one this mid-size sedan will ever have. It’s not official yet, but the rumors said that there won’t be the next generation. The 2016 Avensis will proudly wear a new, updated outfit and walk into a legend. After all these years, the solid sedan is going to be discontinued. However, the 2016 Toyota Avensis has one last shot to impress us and it’s going to use it. With 2016 model year refresh, this car will get some new features which aren’t very impressive, but they will certainly make the new Avensis better. The sedan’s appearance will be fresh and new and that’s going to be the first thing to notice. However, the exterior isn’t the only facet that will be changed. The 2016 Avensis is coming with improved interior, too. Those changes won’t be huge, but they’ll be useful. As for the powertrain, the sedan will have several engine options. Basically, those engines will be carried over, since they won’t suffer any changes. The rumors say that the automaker is developing a Euro-spec version of the Toyota Camry which should replace the 2016 Avensis. Its release is expected in four years.

Changes And Improvements Coming With 2016 Model Year Refresh

The 2016 Toyota Avensis will have refreshed exterior. Some new styling details and more appealing overall look will probably attract some of the customers. Improved with new front fascia, where they located a bit larger grille and slightly different headlights, the body of the sedan will be modern. They have also changed the hood and the taillights. Those improvements aren’t big or radical, but it couldn’t be argued that they won’t matter. It’s clear that the refresh will bring a very handsome sedan on the market. As we already mentioned, the interior is going to be altered. It will keep its recognizable style, but some new elements will be incorporated inside. According to some sources, the 2016 Avensis will get a new 4.2-inch TFT display.

2016 Toyota Avensis Engine Lineup — VALVEMATIC Gasoline Engines

Unfortunately, the 2016 model year update won’t feature new or improved engines. This means that the standard range will be available. The engine with the smallest displacement will be a 1.6-liter VALVEMATIC engine with 132 horsepower and 118 lb-ft of torque. This mill, mated with a six-speed manual transmission, returns 28 mpg/city, 44 mpg/highway and 36 mpg/combined. Slightly more powerful is a 1.8-liter VALVEMATIC delivering 147 horsepower and 133 lb-ft of twist. The most powerful mill is a 2.0-liter VALVEMATIC which is able to generate 152 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque. This powerplant is connected to the wheels via a Multidrive S CVT transmission. Paired with this CVT, it returns 26 mpg/city, 41 mpg/highway and 34 mpg/combined.

2016 Toyota Avensis D-4D Diesel Engine Options

Of course, the 2016 Toyota Avensis will also have diesel engine options. Its 2.0-liter D-4D engine with 124 horsepower and 229 lb-ft of torque has amazing EPA fuel economy ratings. It returns 42 mpg/city, 60 mpg/highway and 52 mpg/combined. Aside from this particular version, the 2016 Avensis will have a boosted model of the same engine which can make 150 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque.

Look Into Future

The 2016 Toyota Avensis is the last generation of the famous sedan. This model will probably be the last refresh and the most up-to-date model before its successor, the Euro-spec Toyota Camry appears on the European market. Although the 2016 Avensis probably isn’t the most brilliant mid-size sedan currently on the market, it’s very well built and with its performance, reliability and features, its price is very competitive.
