2016 Scion FR-S Updated — Changes & Specs
The 2016 Scion FR-S won’t be redesigned. This car’s redesign will probably be more elaborate once they decide to make a new generation of the FR-S, but the 2016 model year will bring just an update. This shouldn’t be taken as a disappointment. The exterior will be refreshed and there will also be a convertible model, which is probably the most noticeable change. The 2016 Scion FR-S will have it’s twin — the Subaru BRZ. The updates of the 2016 FR-S will also reflect on the changes of the Subaru BRZ as well as the Toyota 86 (GT-86). Thanks to the initial introduction at the Tokyo Motor Show back in 2011, a part of the automotive public felt in love with this car, but the 2016 update will probably increase the number of fans. The 2016 Scion FR-S comes with numerous changes and it will probably be very popular. The manufacturer changed the exterior, made some tweaks of the engine lineup and applied some new features. The 2016 Scion FR-S is a really well-built coupe which will be a severe competitor on the market.
2016 Scion FR-S Exterior
Like we already said, the most important news of the FR-S’ exterior is that a new, convertible body is available. The 2016 Scion FR-S convertible is sculpted in order to pronounce the beauty of the body and to capture the general dynamic spirit of this car. It’s based on the FT-86 Open concept and therefore, it should come with sleek curves and pretty alluring profile line. The 2016 FR-S will have improved aerodynamics, so the changed body will affect this coupe’s performance and EPA fuel economy. Having in mind that, according to some rumors, the new FR-S will come with a lot of carbon-fibre, the body is expected to be lighter than before and therefore the performance and the fuel efficiency will be improved even more.
New FR-S Comes With New Engine Option
The engine lineup of the 2016 Scion FR-S will be changed. It’s expected that we see an additional, more powerful, engine, which will significantly improve the performance. With body changes, which are made to meet the needs of a powerful engine, the 2016 FR-S wouldn’t just look more powerful due to the larger air intakes and the improved exhaust system, it will actually be more powerful. Of course, a part of the engine lineup should be a 2.0-liter inline-four engine, which delivers 200 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque without possible power boost. There were some reports which said that the 2016 Scion FR-S Hybrid is also an option. If the hybrid version of this coupe comes out, it should have all-wheel drive. Its powertrain would probably be made of a 2.5-liter boxer engine and an electric motor. The speculations about the 2016 FR-S Hybrid might have a good foundation, but it probably won’t be released 2015.
2016 Scion FR-S Premiere And Estimated Price
The 2016 Scion FR-S will be unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show. We’d be able to see both the coupe and the convertible version of this car. It’s still too early to say with certainty, but there are estimates which say that the price of the 2016 Scion FR-S will be near $25,000 for the coupe version. The MSRP of the convertible model will probably be around $30,000. The Scion FR-S Hybrid will probably be released a year later, so it could belong to the 2017 model year. The price of the hybrid version is estimated at around $50,000.
