2016 Ram 3500 Heavy Duty Towing, Payload & Price
You’ll never guess how they improved the 2016 Ram 3500 heavy duty truck. As you probably know, they’ve always been focused on towing and hauling and now the 2016 Ram 3500 comes to the market with towing capacity of 31,210 pounds.
Thanks to the engineering updates, the 2016 Ram 3500 got a new version of the famous 6.7-liter I-6 diesel engine. In cooperation with Cummins, Ram Engineering improved the mill by developing new hard-hitting fuel delivery and turbo boost calibration. Those changes affect the truck’s performance, since the engine now delivers amazing 900 lb-ft of torque.
Although that might not be a drastic change – the current engine delivers 865 lb-ft of twist – the truth is that there’s no any other mass-produced vehicle with 900 lb-ft of torque.
And since the 2016 Ram 3500 has to bear with improved towing capacity, they had to make some substantial changes to be sure that the truck can take it. FCA said that they “beefed up the rear axle ring gear hardware from 12 to 16 bolts on all trucks equipped with the 11.8-inch axle.” They also used additional hardened bolts and tougher material in the differential case.
So, it’s obvious that the 2016 Ram 3500 is going to be more durable than before. They offer powertrain warranty of five years (or 60,000 miles) for gas engines and five years (or 100,000 miles) for diesel options.
Payload Capacity & SAE-J2807 Standard Test
They’re also proud of the truck’s payload capacity. The 2016 Ram 3500 motivated by a 6.4-liter engine has ability to take 7,390 pounds of payload. The automaker hasn’t hesitated to say that there’s no other truck with such payload specs.
2016 Ram 3500 Price
The 2016 Ram 3500 starts at $31,990. Destination fee adds $1,195 more to the price.
