Updated 2016 Porsche 911 Carrera Gets New Turbocharged Engines
The new update of the Porsche 911 Carrera won’t just bring a modest facelift. Of course, the changes regarding the exterior and interior will be present and they will improve the car, but this model is coming with yet another, more fundamental, improvement. Reportedly, the new 2016 Porsche 911 Carrera will get revised powertrains. Its engines will be turbocharged and while the displacement of the 3.4-liter flat-six will be decreased, the rest of the range will probably keep the same displacement. This way, the 2016 911 Carrera will be boosted. Every single engine option will deliver more power. And aside from the power increase, the updated Carrera will also have lowered emissions. As for the Turbo versions, the rumors said that those two won’t be updated at the moment, but the next generation will bring hybrid technology to improve their performance.
Turbocharged 2.9-liter Flat-six? What’s That?
The aforementioned 3.4-liter flat-six will be half a liter smaller. Now, it’ll be a turbocharged 2.9-liter flat-six. Although the displacement isn’t as big as it was, the engine will actually deliver more power to the wheels. While the naturally-aspirated 3.4-liter produced 350 horsepower, the new turbocharged engine will deliver around 400 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of twist. There are those who won’t like what the automaker did, even them won’t be able to deny that the power output of the base 2016 Porsche 911 Carrera is impressive.
2016 Porsche 911 Carrera S Will Keep Its Displacement
The more powerful 3.8-liter flat-six engine, which powers the Carrera S, will keep its displacement. Of course, they’re going to add a turbocharger which will result in boosted power output. Reportedly, the 2016 Carrera S will have 530 horsepower and 520 lb-ft of torque.
Turbo And Turbo S Are Going To Be Hybrids
As for the Turbo models, there’s no reliable information about their engines. Still, there are some speculations which said that the Turbo and the Turbo S are going to have hybrid powertrains which will improve the power of those coupes. However, this improvement probably won’t happen immediately. It seems that the hybrid technology will have to wait for the next generation. Having in mind that the current Porsche 911 Turbo delivers 520 horsepower, the 2016 Porsche 911 Carrera S will be a bit more powerful.
2016 Porsche 911 GT3 Won’t Change Powertrain
The manufacturer thought about the people who would feel nostalgic because of the discontinuation of the naturally aspirated engines, so they left the GT3 version without a turbocharger. This car will also be updated, but those updates will make it lighter and better performing.
2016 Porsche 911 Carrera Release
The 2016 Porsche 911 Carrera models with turbocharged engines will be released next fall.
