2016 Nissan Maxima Surprised Us, but That’s Not All

Thanks to the Super Bowl commercial, we finally found out how the new 2016 Nissan Maxima will look like. Introduced in a very surprising way and redesigned as a very powerful-looking four-door sedan, the new Maxima does what its predecessor couldn’t – it comes with a new spirit and a completely different design language which will revisit everything we felt about the Nissan’s family sedan.

We said earlier that it would be too optimistic to hope that the 2016 Maxima will inherit the exterior of the Nissan Sport Sedan concept. It turns out that the new Maxima is almost exactly what they’ve introduced as a concept. There are some styling differences, of course, but in general, the 2016 Nissan Maxima got the robust and aggressive appearance of the concept.

2016 Nissan Maxima Appearance

Shaped with the Sport Sedan in mind, the 2016 Nissan Maxima has all the necessary design elements which make a new Nissan model so attractive. There’s the brand’s distinctive V-shaped grille. The grille might seem a bit oversized in comparison with the rest of the front fascia, but that’s just makes the sedan look so powerful.

Add a pair of sharp and really unique aggressive headlights and smooth curves of the front bumper which pronounce the car’s muscles as well as the rest of the body, and you’ll get a tamed racer for your garage, a family sedan with lots of street cred.

The shape of the hood works great with the roofline and the overall length of the new Maxima. The sedan’s muscles aren’t so obvious. They did it exactly by the book. The 2016 Maxima has an elegant and a bit futuristic body shape which suggests that there are some big muscles under the smooth silky skin.

2016 Nissan Maxima Teaser

The rear end isn’t as dramatic as the front fascia. Perhaps it would be too much if they did some styling experiments here. If you’ve seen the headlights, you’d undoubtedly know that the taillights belong to the new Nissan Maxima.

Maybe some would say that the rear end isn’t very special and that a similar style can be seen on a range of upscale cars – from Audi to Aston Martin – but the truth is that they couldn’t just implement any wild design fantasy into a production car exterior design.

Since the 2016 Nissan Maxima is pretty bold in a number of aspects, a calm rear end (which doesn’t depart from the overall body design) might be just what was necessary for a perfect blend.

Powertrain Expectations

The automaker introduced the 2016 Nissan Maxima in a bit unconventional way. The new sedan had a cameo appearance in this year’s Nissan Super Bowl commercial which was a big surprise. We don’t think that they’re done with surprises. This was just the first one, but we think that’s not all.

That’s why we won’t bet on any of the rumors about the possible engine options. The most reasonable one was that the 2016 Nissan Maxima would get an improved V6 engine that currently motivates its predecessor. Aside from the fact that they might offer something completely different, there’s a big chance that the new Nissan’s sedan comes with a hybrid powertrain available.

2016 Nissan Maxima Release Date

The production 2016 Nissan Maxima will have its world premiere at the 2015 New York Auto Show. The first units are expected to hit the showrooms later this year, probably this fall.
