The people who like the Mercedes’ SUV lineup will be delighted by the refreshed 2016 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class. The mid-cycle update, three years after the release of the current GL-Class generation, brings restyled exterior and interior as well as an additional trim. The rear end will also be redesigned, but the scale and type of changes isn’t known at this moment. The sunroof is now longer and wider, which doesn’t seem like a big change from the outside, but the passengers will certainly appreciate this improvement. The 2016 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class undoubtedly aims to conquer the full-size luxury SUV market niche. It comes with some extraordinary features. The interior will be refreshed by the redesigned dashboard and probably some additional fresh details, but the safety, infotainment and convenience are at the top of the priority list.
GL-Class’ Engine Options And Available Trims
This powerful luxury SUV has, as we already mentioned, several engine options. The new 2016 Mercedes-Benz GL400 has a 3.0-liter V6 engine under the hood. This mill is able to generate 333 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque. It will be mated with a seven-speed automatic gearbox. As for the other specs, the new GL400 trim will have EPA fuel economy around 25 mpg/combined. It will be capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 6.7 seconds. There won’t be significant powertrain changes regarding the other GL-Class trims. The 2016 GL450 is powered by a 4.6-liter V8, which could come with slightly improved power output. The 2016 Mercedes-Benz GL550 will be loyal to its reliable 4.6-liter V6 engine. The most powerful engine will be used for the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GL63 AMG. This top-notch SUV will be powered by a 550-horsepower 5.5-liter V8 engine. The 2016 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class will come with just one diesel engine option. That would be the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GL350 BlueTEC, which is powered by a 3.0-liter turbodiesel, able to deliver 240 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of twist.
2016 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class Release Date
The release date of the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class is still unknown, but this SUV is expected to be introduced at the Detroit Auto Show early 2015. We can assume that it will be released several months after the U.S. premiere, but we wouldn’t bet on it. It would be more reasonable to expect the first units of the 2016 GL-Class to be available by the summer 2015.
