2016 Mazda CX-3 Teased Before Los Angeles Premiere

The upcoming 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show will host the premiere of the 2016 Mazda CX-3. As we recently wrote, the crossover is going to be a worthy addition to the manufacturer’s crossover lineup. The automaker released the teaser image of the 2016 CX-3 before the Los Angeles debut. The most of the features of this subcompact crossover is still secret, but it’s known that they made it with relying on the existing models. Since the 2016 Mazda CX-3 has to be a tough competitor to the well-established subcompact models — such as the Nissan Juke of the Chevy Trax — the manufacturer employed its Kodo design language to make it attractive enough to become one of the most important players within the market segment. The automaker is preparing some other premieres for the 2014 L.A. Auto Show, but the 2016 CX-3 will probably be the most interesting.

Teaser Image Reveals Appearance of 2016 Mazda CX-3

At this point, there’s no much new information about the subcompact crossover. Since the premiere is really close, all the automakers are keeping their models secret. However, it’s known that he 2016 Mazda CX-3 will be sculpted using the Kodo design language, which is depicted at the teaser image. Here, we can see that the front fascia will follow the design standards which were established earlier. The crossover’s front end will definitely be shaped along the lines of the current Mazda SUV lineup. This means that the recognizable Mazda grille paired with distinctive headlights is expected to be almost the same as those which can be seen at the CX-3’s bigger siblings. The teaser image also revealed that the subcompact crossover’s body will be sleek with a hint of muscles under the body’s smooth surfaces. As we can see, the roofline could be a bit different than it was expected. At the teaser image, the 2016 Mazda CX-3 looks like a coupe. Of course, the model which is going to be unveiled this November in Los Angeles might be a little bit different, but those lines should be pretty accurate.

Powertrain: SKYACTIV Engine Options

It’s not a secret that the manufacturer employed its SKYACTIV technology. Those principles and engineering advances weren’t used just for the platform and body. The 2016 Mazda CX-3 will also have SKYACTIV engines. We already wrote about engine options which will power the 2016 CX-3. The crossover will have a 1.5-liter SKYACTIV-D diesel engine with amazing fuel economy. There will also be a 1.3-liter gasoline four-cylinder engine with a turbocharger and a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter gasoline engine with 155 horsepower and 150 lb-ft of torque. As for the drive, it’s expected that the standard 2016 Mazda CX-3 has front-wheel drive. It’s rumored that they are going to offer all-wheel drive as an option, but there’s no official confirmation yet.
