2016 Maserati Levante SUV — Superb Specs & Style
The 2016 Maserati Levante SUV will be released next year. The most important aspects of this vehicle are luxury and style. It looks incredible and it should be quite a refreshment when it appears on the U.S. market. This luxury SUV comes to prove that it can compete with some of the most prominent players in its market segment. The 2016 Maserati Levante design is inspired by the Maserati Kubang concept, which was one of the stars at the Frankfurt Auto Show back in 2011. It won’t look the same, but we can say it will have a certain resemblance. With stunning engine lineup and great appearance, the 2016 Maserati Levante threatens to outshine its competition, Porsche, BMW and Audi SUVs in the first place. Its name is derived from the name of the Via Emilia Levante Street in Bologna, Italy, where Maserati brothers founded the company almost a hundred years ago, on December 1st, 1914. The company changed its headquarters location and since 1993, it belongs to the Fiat company, but the Italians know how to pay tribute to their heritage. If we disregard this somewhat romantic beginning, the story about this SUV will bring only impressive specs, great performance, mechanics and everything what an automotive enthusiast would like. So, what are the features and specs of the 2016 Levante?
2016 MASERATI LEVANTE EXTERIOR — NEW PLATFORM & STYLE
The 2016 Maserati Levante is an SUV which won’t be underpinned by the same platform used for the Cherokee and the Durango. Although the Kubang concept was based on it, this platform was replaced by the same one used as a base for Maserati sedans, Quatroporte and Ghibli. It will be slightly modified to suit the specific anatomy of the SUV, but basically it will be the same one. As for the appearance, we don’t know for sure how it will look, but it will resemble the Kubang with skillfully incorporating some not-so-direct associations on the best details of the Porsche and BMW style. The 2016 Levante exterior is designed with a large grille which is shaped in a way it characterizes the Maserati brand. Of course, there will be a famous trident-badge. With smooth lines which reveal a muscular body beneath, the Levante design language will tell a story about class, luxury and outstanding superiority of this SUV. Some reports say the interior will be based on the design solutions already seen inside the Quatroporte and Ghibli. In the end, the 2016 Levante is the very first SUV manufactured in the century long company history. Having this in mind, we could assume that they will give their best to make it brilliant.
2016 MASERATI LEVANTE POWERTRAIN — ENGINES, TRANSMISSION AND DRIVE
As for the powertrain, the 2016 Maserati Levante comes with three engines under its hood. The engine lineup consists of one diesel and two gasoline units. Unfortunately, the diesel engine won’t be available in the U.S., but it’s worth mentioning. It is the same one installed in the Maserati Ghibli. This 3.0-liter V-6 turbodiesel delivers 275 horsepower. On the other hand, those gasoline engines available in the U.S. are more powerful. The first one is a 3.0-liter V-6, which generates 410 horsepower. Another one is a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V-8. This engine is capable of delivering stunning 530 horsepower. The transmission is eight-speed automatic. It will be connected to all four wheels. The 2016 Maserati Levante AWD is based on the all-wheel drive used for the Quatroporte, but it is made with some additional improvements. There will be no manual transmission available.
2016 MASERATI LEVANTE RELEASE DATE
The 2016 Maserati Levante production will begin soon, so it can be introduced in 2015. It will be manufactured in Mirafiori, which is located near Turin in Italy. There were some speculations about possible production alongside with the Jeep Grand Cherokee at the Chrysler’s plant in Detrot, but since the capacities are engaged for the Cherokee production, the management chosen the Mirafiori plant as Levante’s home. The new Alfa Romeo SUV will come from the Mirafiori plant, too. So, the 2016 Maserati Levante premiere is scheduled for the next year. It will probably be released a little bit later, but certainly before 2016.
