2016 Lincoln MKX Is Coming to NAIAS: What to Expect

The redesigned 2016 Lincoln MKX is coming to the 2015 NAIAS. The automaker will unveil the production model at the Detroit premiere this January and although the crossover’s appearance is still secret, there’s no doubt that it won’t be drastically different from the MKX concept. But, let’s wrap up what we know about the new model at the moment.

The mid-size crossover, which is expected to have a big impact on the luxury crossover market, is going to be similar to the MKC, its compact counterpart. Of course, there will be some obvious differences, but the overall style will be somewhere between the MKC and the MKX concept which was introduced last April in Beijing. The 2016 MKX will be the automaker’s way into an emerging market segment, but it’s a part of a bigger strategy. Ford has a plan to reestablish the Lincoln brand as one of the most upscale luxury brands in the industry. The new 2016 Lincoln MKX is just a small step, but its effects should be seen over the next several years.

Exterior and Design Directions

The exterior of the new 2016 MKX will be sensible. It will be based on the MKX concept, but some of the imaginative design elements seen at the Beijing debut will be anodyne. The luxury crossover won’t depart from the brand’s general style, so the appearance will be balanced and not as absorbing as we expected. However, the fact that the 2016 Lincoln MKX is going to be one of the best-looking luxury crossovers can’t be denied. The crossover will have a robust appearance inherited from the concept, but also some elegant lines which will testify about the brand’s direction to the highest stratum of the market.

2016 Lincoln MKX Powertrain Rumors

The entry-version of the 2016 Lincoln MKX is expected to be motivated by a turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine. There are some rumors which say that it may get a 2.0-liter EcoBoost, but a four-cylinder mill will, undoubtedly, be the base one. Of course, there will be a more powerful option and that would probably by a 2.7-liter V6 EcoBoost engine. Every engine option will be mated with a six-speed automatic transmission.

MyLincoln Touch? How About SYNC 3?

Although some early speculations indicated that the crossover will get a MyLincoln Touch infotainment system, it would be really unreasonable if they don’t use the brand new SYNC 3 system.

The 2016 Lincoln MKX will have its debut at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, like we already said.
