2016 Land Rover Defender Rumors
We already wrote that the all-new version of the Land Rover Defender isn’t ready to replace the outgoing legendary version. However, according to the latest rumors, the new generation of could be released next year. This redesigned vehicle isn’t exactly based on the Land Rover DC100 concept, but it will probably use a lot of the concept’s features, as expected. The new Defender will probably be released as a 2016 model. Although it will keep its traditional feel, the 2016 Land Rover Defender will be far away from the old design. It’s hard to make a redesign of an iconic SUV. The new generation has to inherit the same feel its predecessors had, but at the same time to be new and modern, with contemporary technology and style. It could be considered as a modern interpretation of a classic design. The 2016 Defender is exactly that. Of course, there will always be someone who doesn’t think that the redesign is successful, but in general, they did a great job creating an another generation of the famous SUV. The 2016 Land Rover Defender might get both gasoline and diesel engines, but there’s also a possibility that it gets a hybrid powertrain. The manufacturer made an SUV which is compliant with all the safety standards (that was the issue and the reason why the classic Defender is discontinued) and they intend to make a great business case with this one.
2016 Land Rover Defender Redesign — Blending Traditional And Modern Approach
The exterior of the 2016 Land Rover Defender is inspired by the older versions of this SUV, but it will look nothing like before. Of course, the DC100 concept helped, but what they made is pretty different when compared with the concept. The Defender’s appearance was always rough and bold, so the redesign of the 2016 Defender had to, basically, repaint the same picture with new, brighter colors. While they had to stay confident and not to diverge from the well-known style, they also had to manufacture a vehicle which can compete against all the modern-looking SUVs today. The 2016 Land Rover Defender used some of the design solutions seen at the DC100, so it’s coming with the same (or almost the same) front fascia, but this doesn’t mean the it won’t be different. The production version of this SUV could be equipped with a lot of advanced technology and systems which improve its behavior in all driving conditions, but it’s questionable how far they will go.
Interior And Manufacturer’s Standing On Luxury
Although we don’t know how the interior will look, there are some announcements about the overall feel of the Defender’s cabin. This vehicle shouldn’t be a luxury one. It has to be affordable and in order to make this happen, the manufacturer has to give up on everything extravagant. Reportedly, the base 2016 Land Rover Defender won’t have a luxury cabin. Instead on high-class elegance and style, the new Defender will rather have a useful and thought-out interior. Of course, this doesn’t eliminate upgrades, so the higher trims and additional packages could make this SUV very cozy and comfortable.
Possible Engine Options
It’s hard to estimate what mills will be installed in the 2016 Land Rover Defender. This SUV deserves a reliable and powerful lineup, whose primary characteristic is durability, but performance and fuel efficiency shouldn’t be neglected. There are some speculations which say that the 2016 Defender could be powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gas engine. It the rumors are true, this SUV could get a more powerful engine option — a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 engine. They will probably install at least one diesel engine under the Defender’s hood, but the hybrid variant is questionable, although it could have surprisingly good sales in the U.S.
2016 Land Rover Defender Expected Release Date
If the 2016 Land Rover Defender keeps following the principles set while building the DC100 concept, its price will be more affordable than anyone expected. There’s no reliable information about the possible price of the new Defender, but we’ll find that out before it appears in the dealerships. If they don’t delay the release again, the 2016 Defender should be introduced next year at some of the greatest auto shows and it should be available by the middle of 2016. However, this isn’t an official information, so we have to take it with caution.
