2016 Kia Sportage Improved: 2016 Model Year Changes
The 2016 Kia Sportage belongs to a cluttered market niche. These days, CUVs are extremely popular and almost every automaker has a model to add to the general mix-up. According to Kia Motors, the 2016 Sportage is coming with several changes that were made in order to simplify the lineup and to upgrade the vehicle with some upscale features.
Virtually every single trim got something new and improving. Perhaps the base Sportage benefited the most, but the other two trim levels also got their portion of the update. Needless to say, the 2016 Sportage is available in three trims – LX, EX and SX – as it was before.
2016 Kia Sportage LX Popular Package Novelties
The 2016 Kia Sportage LX with the Popular Package brought a touchscreen that’s coming with Rear Camera Display as well as auto headlights. Those two are just a 2016 model year addition to the already existing equipment list that consists of a trip computer, rear armrest with cup holders, rear spoiler, Smart Key with push-button start, leather seating, roof rails and illuminated sun visors.
EX Premium Package Changes
The EX Premium Package is coming with the Infinity Premium audio system, fog lights, heated side mirrors with integrated turn signals and glove box cooling. The 2016 Sportage EX with the Premium Package already had a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats and navigation.
Top-Notch 2016 Kia Sportage SX
The 2016 Kia Sportage SX is top-of-the-range version that has everything the EX Premium Package has to offer and some additional features. The SX has a standard turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 78 horsepower more than the standard engine installed in the LX and EX models. Aside from this difference, the SX brags around with its dual exhaust pipes, aluminum door plates, LED taillights and LED daytime running lights as well as unique grille and wheels design.
Engines, Transmission and Drive
The LX and EX trims are powered by an atmospheric 2.4-liter GDI four-cylinder engine that can generate 182 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque. And that’s really fine for a crossover this big. But if you see the Sportage’s dynamic exterior as a promise of sporty performance, the SX version is motivated by a turbocharged 2.0-liter GDI four-cylinder mill with power output of 260 ponies and 269 lb-ft of twist.
Both of the engines are mated to a standard six-speed automatic gearbox. All-wheel drive is available on all three trims.
