2016 Jeep Wrangler Diesel & Gasoline V6 Engines
The 2016 Jeep Wrangler was earlier announced as a 2015 model. It will come to the market with all the announced specs, but it will be available next year as a 2016 model. Its appearance won’t be drastically redesigned, but the 2016 Jeep Wrangler will get a new engine which will improve the performance and increase the number of available options for the potential buyers.
Since the 2016 Wrangler will be based on the same platform and the platform will be unchanged for the next couple of years, all of the improvements they made in order to make the 2016 Jeep Wrangler attractive and competitive on the market, don’t concern the essential features of the body.
2016 Jeep Wrangler Diesel and Gas Engine Options — V6 EcoDiesel & V6 Pentastar
The new diesel engine is a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 EcoDiesel. It’s the same unit installed in the Grand Cherokee. Currently we don’t know whether it will deliver the same power output once it’s nested under the hood of the 2016 Wrangler. This unit generates 240 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque installed inside the Grand Cherokee.
Some sources indicate that its power will be increased before installing in the Wrangler. If that’s true, this engine may have additional 20-30 horsepower.
Aside from the V6 EcoDiesel, the 2016 Wrangler will have a carried-over 3.6-liter V6 Pentastar, with 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. This engine’s EPA fuel economy is around 17 mpg/city and 21 mpg/highway. This engine is paired with a five-speed automatic gearbox.
On the other hand, the 2016 Wrangler diesel EPA fuel economy will be around 21 mpg/city and 28 mpg/highway, thanks to the V6 EcoDiesel and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The diesel engine option seems to be more attractive, but we have to wait for the market to determine is it really what the Wrangler’s fans wanted.
Is 2016 Jeep Wrangler Last Generation Before Redesign?
According to some reports, the Wrangler will get a complete makeover for the 2017 model year. This isn’t much reliable, but since the last redesign was eight years ago, the 2016 Jeep Wrangler may be the last one which will have this appearance. With a new platform and styling improvements, the new Wrangler might be one of the most attractive vehicles within its market segment.
