2016 Ford Focus RS Introduced: Ready for USA
The 2016 Ford Focus RS has been introduced. And finally, this thoroughbred performance hatchback is going to be available on the American market. Of course, since it goes way back with its European fans, they will be able to see it first at the upcoming 2015 Geneva Motor Show.
Having in mind that the 2016 Focus RS is going global, it will probably have several release dates for particular markets. The expectations are that the U.S.-spec Ford Focus RS is going to be released this fall as a 2016 model.
Powered by a 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine, the top-notch Focus will deliver more than 315 horsepower. But its specs won’t rely on the EcoBoost mill only. Ford Performance engineers have created a really impressive hatchback whose driving characteristics must be amazing.

2016 Ford Focus RS AWD – Dynamic Torque Vectoring
The third-gen Focus RS comes with new Ford Performance All-Wheel Drive with Dynamic Torque Vectoring. Thanks to this advanced system, the sporty hatch will come with great performance – its traction and handling should be amongst the best in the class.
The new system constantly monitors input data – a hundred times per second – and distributes torque to the wheels where needed. The rear axle can’t take more than 70 percent of torque, but everything it gets can be distributed to each of the wheels.
The 2016 Ford Focus RS is great in cornering. Using instant input data, the system determines the car’s lateral acceleration, yaw, speed and steering wheel angle and immediately heels the outer rear wheel with necessary torque. This way, the new Focus RS is significantly better in cornering and it practically doesn’t allow being understeered.
Needless to say, they installed sports suspension, Electronic Stability Control, brake-based Torque Vectoring Control, antiroll bars, an electric power steering system and a number of other features which will enhance the driving experience.
Exterior and Interior Design
The exterior of the hot hatch has been sculpted with an idea to follow the performance imperative. In order to provide satisfactory performance, they had to create a body which can have great down force as well as amazing handling and cornering.
When you look at the 2016 Ford Focus RS for the first time, you see something well known but significantly more powerful. The body of the latest Ford Performance addition has been crafted to deliver the best performance possible, but this doesn’t mean that they neglected the car’s aesthetics. The 2016 Focus RS is very assertive. With some augmented design elements, the new hatchback pronounces its sports aspirations.
Inside the cabin of the new top-notch Focus RS they installed a standard 8-inch touchscreen where the Ford SYNC is displayed. Since this is a sports car, it got Recaro bucket seats, alloy pedals and a number of various performance design elements.
EcoBoost Engine and Six-Speed Manual Transmission
The direct-injected EcoBoost engine of the performance hatchback is very similar to the 2.3-liter four-cylinder mill installed under the hood of the new Mustang. However, they made some changes in order to develop an engine for this particular car.
It comes with a new twin-scroll turbocharger which provider noticeably better airflow. Aside from the new larger intercooler and the newly designed intakes which let more air to the engine, the 2016 Focus RS got some more substantial engine changes. Its four-banger has cylinder heads that are made of a new alloy which is more suitable for higher temperatures, while the cylinder block has high-tensile cast iron liners.
The powerful EcoBoost is mated with a six-speed manual transmission. The transmission has a shorter gear lever and it consists of more durable components that can take all the extreme conditions the new performance Focus can bring.
2016 Ford Focus RS Release and Debut
Thanks to the Blue Oval’s plan with new Ford Performance range, the American market will finally get an opportunity to try this exciting hatchback. The first public appearance of the 2016 Ford Focus RS will be at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show this spring. The first models will probably be released this fall or early next year.
