2016 Chrysler 100 Compact Sedan News & Rumors
The Chrysler’s sedan lineup will be expanded soon. The all-new 2016 Chrysler 100 comes as a compact sedan, which will compete against the classics of the market niche. Of course, it will have a lot in common with it its bigger siblings, the Chrysler 200 and the Chrysler 300. To be honest, the 2016 Chrysler 100 is still secret, so the available information about this car is really modest. This sedan will, according to some expectations, be released early 2016. Therefore, it could easily belong to the 2017 model year. Although it’s impossible to know whether this car will be called the 2016 Chrysler 100 or the 2017 Chrysler 100, it’s known that it will have essential features borrowed from the other Chrysler sedans. Actually, there are some speculations that it might have something in common with the Dodge Dart. But first, what do we know about this sedan’s appearance?
Expected Appearance And Design Language
The 2016 Chrysler 100 will have to look impressive. Not just because it’s a Chrysler, but because it’s an all-new model which should fight for its chunk of the market with well-established sedans such as the Honda Civic, the Toyota Corolla and the Ford Focus. Therefore, the exterior of this car will have to be striking. Although there are some opinions which say that the design of the 2016 Chrysler 100 will be wild and unconventional, this compact sedan could come with more timid appearance than expected. Of course, this doesn’t mean that it will be boring and unattractive. Having in mind that this car will probably inherit a lot of the design language used for the 2015 Chrysler 300 and especially the 2015 Chrysler 200, there’s no doubt that the body of the newest addition to the Chrysler’s lineup will be beautiful. We expect elegant and smooth surfaces and highly-stylized body which will suit the size of the car and the market niche where it belongs. It could also bring some new design solutions which will contribute to the distinctivness of the design.
2016 Chrysler 100 Powertrain — Probable Engine Options
As we mentioned earlier, the 2016 Chrysler 100 is a pretty big mystery. It’s known that this car will be based on the same architecture used for the Chrysler 200. Having in mind that those sedans are underpinned by the same platform, it’s reasonable to assume that the 2016 Chrysler 100 could borrow the engine which powers its older sibling. If this happens, the 2016 Chrysler 100 will be powered by a 2.4-liter inline-four, which is able to generate 184 horsepower and 173 lb-ft of torque. This engine, used as the Chrysler 200’s mill, returns 23 mpg / city, 28 mpg / combined and 36 mpg / highway. If it would be used for the new Chrysler 100, it could have even better EPA fuel economy results. Also, there are some speculation about another engine. Reportedly, the 2016 Chrysler 100 could come on the market with a 1.4-liter MultiAir engine under the hood. This engine powers the Dodge Dart and delivers 160 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. As for the fuel efficiency, used for the Dart, this powerplant returns 27 mpg / city, 32 mpg / combined and 39 mpg / highway. The transmission will probably be a nine-speed automatic. Of course, the necessary remark is that those two engines mentioned aren’t official yet. These are just powerplants which are the most suitable for the new compact sedan. The manufacturer could come up with a completely different engine option, but those two are the most probable at the moment.
