2016 Chevy Malibu Is Coming Significantly Improved
The 2016 Chevrolet Malibu hasn’t been completely revealed yet, but using the teaser photo the automaker has released, we can make a preliminary judgment. Releasing a completely redesigned Malibu just three years after the current model is a signal that GM has some inclinations towards the mid-size sedan market niche. And it seems that we’re going to be impressed once they unveil the 2016 Chevy Malibu at the 2015 New York Auto Show.
Although General Motors has a various range of different vehicles across the market, this particular niche is a place where they’re not brilliant. There is a bunch of other mid-size sedans that come before the Malibu – most of them coming from the Far East, but there are some domestic sedans that are perceived as more attractive than the GM’s trump.
That’s why the 2016 Chevy Malibu is going to come with dramatic changes. The automaker is still very secretive, so they haven’t said much about the car, but we know that the redesign is going to change virtually every single aspect of the sedan. They said that the 2016 Malibu is “designed to deliver more efficiency, connectivity and advanced safety features than ever”.
Body and Structural Changes
Targeting the families which need a versatile car for numerous purposes, they decided to alter the way how the Malibu is perceived and they started where they should – at the most essential features. Aside from the safety, efficiency and connectivity, the new Chevy Malibu will also come with drastically improved body.
They used a new architecture. Instead of the old Epsilon 2 platform, the 2016 Malibu got a new E2XX underpinning. Thanks to the structural change, the sedan is expected to come with 300 pounds less than its predecessor.
The exterior suffered some styling changes. The body redesign stretched the wheelbase for about four inches, so the yet-to-come Malibu will be more comfortable.
“Malibu’s gorgeous styling is the result of a masterful understanding of proportions,” said Ed Welburn, General Motors’ vice president of Global Design. “The roofline has been stretched rearward giving a more sleek profile, while the front wheels have moved forward and front and rear overhangs have been reduced. Along with the sculpted body side, these cues help Malibu appear more dynamic and sophisticated.”
2016 Chevrolet Malibu Release Date
The 2016 Chevrolet Malibu will be introduced at the 2015 New York Auto Show, as we already mentioned. The first units will be released by the end of the year and we expect a drastically improved sedan, with more attractive design, better safety and efficiency, superb technology and, in fact, all the facets polished and ready to shine.
