2016 Cadillac CT6 Design: Did You Expect It like This?
It may seem confusing, since the appearance of the upcoming 2016 Cadillac CT6 will be special and not so special at the same time. According to the Automotive News report, the flagship sedan, which will be placed at the top of the luxury brand’s lineup, will certainly stand out, but it won’t come with exterior style that’s essentially different. The sedan’s the full-size body and assertive lines of the Cadillac design language will result in expected astonishing design, but don’t expect dramatic changes. Of course, the automaker won’t reveal any details before the premiere which is scheduled for the upcoming spring. Nonetheless, we know that the existing range will selflessly borrow it overall style to the forthcoming 2016 Cadillac CT6. The luxury sedan won’t be significantly influenced by the style of the famous Cadillac Elmiraj concept. That might seem a bit strange because the expectations were that the concept was made to be a paragon for top-notch vehicles and especially the 2016 CT6.
Mr. Ed Welburn, General Motors’ Vice President of Global Design, confirmed that the upcoming CT6 won’t be drastically affected by the style of the Elmiraj concept.
“I think Elmiraj was more of an influence on some other things we’re working on for Cadillac.”
If they won’t base the sedan’s exterior design on the upscale concept, they will have to keep the current theme. That’s what Mr. Welburn said to Automotive News:
“It’ll be different and it will certainly stand out in the portfolio, but you won’t see a real shift in direction.”
In other words, the 2016 CT6 will be a powerful-looking car with high-class luxury style, great powertrain and amazing features, but this won’t be the car which will bring a futuristic revolution in the Cadillac lineup.
However, there will be some new features. The 2016 Cadillac CT6 will be the first vehicle underpinned by the new Omega platform. As for the powertrain, the expectations are that the sedan will get a twin-turbo 3.6-liter V6 paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. When the development of the new ten-speed automatic gearbox is over, it will probably replace the eight-speed solution.
The 2016 Cadillac CT6 will be introduced sometime during spring 2015. As for the release, it’s still hard to say, but the first units might hit the showrooms by the end of 2015.
