2016 Acura RDX Is Coming This Spring: Everything You Need to Know
The 2016 Acura RDX suffered numerous changes and although its release date hasn’t been determined yet, it will be available this spring. Displayed at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show, the new RDX came with a number of changes. Since it borrowed the base of the styling DNA from its predecessor, the new style changes altered the general impression of the luxury crossover, but not as if it were a redesign.
In an attempt to improve its SUV range, the Japanese automaker made some substantial improvements. This means that the 2016 Acura RDX got some really elaborate update. They’ve improved performance, styling, and safety, but they also decided not to take any chances with the new RDX, since it has great sales figures, so they improved its luxury too.
Exterior Update – New Face of New Acura RDX
The exterior of the 2016 Acura RDX is somewhat different. The 2016 model year comes with a redesigned front fascia where they installed Acura Jewel Eye LED headlights. The rear fascia has also been altered. They implemented LED taillights as well.
The new three-dimensional grille and slightly more assertive appearance may not be enough for some of the luxury crossover enthusiasts, but the scale of the exterior update could be perfect for the most of the potential customers. The 2016 RDX has new wheel designs, too.
Interior and Technology
As for the interior, the 2016 RDX got a high-contrast silver and black trim. Also, it has standard heated front seats and second-row air-conditioning vents. If you choose Technology Package, it will bring an eight-way adjustable power passenger’s front seat instead of a standard four-way power seat.
There’s a set of very interesting gadgets that comes with the package – Acura intuitive On-Demand Multi-Information Display, HD Radio, blind spot information and Rear Cross Traffic Monitor.
2016 Acura RDX Advance Package – Something Really New
The new Advance Package has AcuraWatch technologies – Lane Departure Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control, Collision Mitigation Braking System and Lane Keeping Assist. Those features improve the safety and convenience already provided by standard Multi-View Rear Camera and Expanded View side mirror.
While the AcuraWatch utilizes sensors, radar and a monocular camera mounted at the windshield to provide additional safety, the 2016 Acura RDX has separate collision safety precautions, since its body structure has been developed to minimize the impact of a frontal collision. The automaker is proud of the crossover’s five-star NHTSA rating.
“The RDX ended on a high note in 2014, posting its best sales year ever, but at Acura, we are not content in resting on our laurels,” said Mike Accavitti, senior vice president and general manager of Acura. “The 2016 RDX gets a major infusion of Acura brand DNA including enhancements to styling, driving performance, and exciting new luxury feature-content, further solidifying its place as the one to beat in the entry luxury SUV segment.”
2016 Acura RDX Engine, Transmission and Fuel Economy Changes
This sounds great, but let’s see how much of a performance boost the crossover got. The new 3.5-liter i-VTEC V6 engine delivers 279 horsepower and 252 lb-ft of torque. Although the 2016 Acura RDX has only 6 horsepower and 1 lb-ft more than its predecessor, it would surprise you with its performance. That’s because they focused on the vehicle’s behavior on the road and now the 2016 RDX delivers more torque at lower revs, providing better acceleration and performance in general.
The 2016 RDX also has slightly better EPA fuel economy ratings. Perhaps it’s not something to write home about, but the engine’s Variable Cylinder Management and a new nine-speed automatic transmission contributed to 20 mpg/city and 29 mpg/highway for FWD models and 19 mpg/city and 28 mpg/highway for AWD models.
Other Engineering Improvements
They have also improved the crossover’s steering and suspension, so some more demanding tasks like cornering should be significantly better, especially with the all-wheel-drive system. The 2016 Acura RDX AWD comes with Intelligent Control which helps distribute the available torque and improve stability and performance regardless the surface or weather condition.
2016 Acura RDX Release Date & Pricing
The 2016 Acura RDX will be launched this spring. We can’t say more about its pricing, but the rumors are that the moderate expectations will be met. However, take this with a grain of salt, since nothing’s official yet.
