2016 Acura ILX Teased: Total Makeover For More Upscale Feel & Superb Performance
The manufacturer announced the 2016 Acura ILX premiere for the upcoming 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show this November. This compact sedan, based on the Honda Civic, is not significantly better. Of course, since they just announced the 2016 ILX, there are no details about it, but they said that the sedan is going to be “substantially new”. Are they going to change the car’s essentials? Well, it seem that the 2016 Acura ILX will be treated with a redesign which will radically change all the important aspects. It’s going to have a new powertrain which will be more powerful than before, a restyled exterior whose attractive appearance will better suit the car’s new character and probably a completely new interior which will suffer a total redesign. This way, the 2016 Acura ILX will diverge from its less extravagant relative, the Honda Civic, and get a new life competing against the Germans — Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class, Audi A3, BMW 2-Series — and some of the other premium cars, such as the Buick Verano.
2016 Acura ILX Powertrain Changes: Better Performance Thanks To New 2.4-liter Four-Cylinder Engine
Although they haven’t elaborately announced those improvements, they said that the 2016 Acura ILX is going to have an improved powertrain. The current model is powered by a 150-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder which is a fine engine, but not ideal for a luxury sedan the ILX intends to be. Truth be told, there’s a 2.4-liter four-cylinder mill, with 201 horsepower, which is suitable for the ILX, but this is an optional engine. The 2016 Acura ILX will probably get a direct-injected 2.4-liter inline-four, a new powerplant which will bring better performance and more virile character. Some rumors about this engine said that it could deliver 206 horsepower and 182 lb-ft of torque. It’s expected to be paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. Unfortunately, at this point we don’t know more about the car’s performance and specs, but we don’t have to wait for a long, since the premiere is scheduled for the upcoming November. It’s a reasonable assumption that the 2016 ILX could get the famous SH-AWD which could add a completely another dimension to the car’s performance, since the automaker announced that every Acura model in the close future will have standard all-wheel drive.
Restyled Appearance Could Make New ILX More Appealing
The appearance will also be improved. The manufacturer wasn’t glad to reveal the ILX’s appearance before the L.A. debut scheduled for the upcoming November, but it’s known that the sedan got some fashion advice from the Acura TLX. They probably changed the car’s exterior in an evolutionary way, without radical changes of style, but with modern touch which could dramatically improve how the car is perceived. Since the 2016 Acura ILX needed a facelift, the new exterior design is probably the most important improvement which comes with the 2016 model year.
Interior Improvements — More Refinement And Sophistication
They also improved the car’s interior. Instead of the old cabin which, let’s be honest, couldn’t compete with the interiors of the most prominent models within the market niche, the 2016 Acura ILX got a brand new interior, refined and reinvented. It’s true that the 2016 model makeover will be focused on performance, but for the manufacturer, the interior was probably equally important. As the 2016 ILX belongs to the luxury segment, the automaker’s decision to improve comfort and convenience is a very good business move. Reportedly, the sedan is going to get more standard features than before. Some sources mention heated seats with leather upholstery and some other luxury features, but we have to wait for the premiere in order to find out for sure how much luxury they nested inside the ILX’s cabin.
2016 Acura ILX Premiere
The premiere of the 2016 Acura ILX is scheduled for November 20th at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show. After the debut, a lot of the additional information is going to be known. From this point of view, the 2016 ILX seems like a very well-build car whose improvements could promote it to the top of the market niche. With more luxury and better performance, the new ILX is going to be a tough competitor once it hits the showrooms. Currently, the sedan’s release date isn’t known as well as the pricing, but we’ll know more after the premiere.
