2015 Land Rover Discovery Sport Features
The 2015 Land Rover Discovery Sport is a seven-seater SUV unveiled at the 2014 Paris Auto Show. Relying on the Range Rover Evoque, the 2015 Discovery Sport is going to touch the American soil as the replacement for the LR2. Although it doesn’t seem to be big enough for seven seats, the SUV has 5+2 seats in three rows. It will compete against well-established SUVs on the market, such as the Mercedes-Benz M-Class, BMW X5 and the Volvo XC90. Powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, the 2015 Land Rover Discovery Sport has enough power send to all four wheels. Although it looks elegant the luxury SUV isn’t afraid of off-road obstacles. It could be argued that its true character could be revealed only when the wheels leave the road. There’s no doubt that this SUV isn’t the best in the Land Rover family when it comes to the off-road drive, but no one could deny its abilities. The 2015 Land Rover Discovery Sport really is an urban and smart SUV, but it has off-road adventures in its genes. Of course, besides the heritage, it’s helpful that this SUV has all the advanced off-road systems which control the vehicle’s behavior in various situations.
2015 Land Rover Discovery Sport Appearance
The exciting design language used for the exterior of the 2015 Land Rover Discovery Sport isn’t far from the traditional lines of the family. However, this doesn’t mean that the SUV is conservative or boring. It’s obvious that this vehicle respects its tradition and heritage, but it’s not afraid of the future and changes it may bring. The appearance can be improved by various additional features. The Black Pack provides mirror caps, gloss black grille, attractive vents on the front fenders and impressive 19- or 20-inch alloy wheels. The roof can be painted in Santorini Black or Corris Gray, but there’s also a panoramic roof available.
Basic Architecture Borrowed From Evoque
Built on the aluminum architecture that provides enough space to put seven seats inside the cabin, the mid-size SUV won’t be heavy, thanks to the use of magnesium, high-strength steel and aluminum. It wheelbase is 107.9 inches long, 3.2 inches longer than the wheelbase of the 2015 Land Rover LR2. It’s the same with the overall length, since the body of the 2015 Discovery Sport is, with 180.7 inches, 3.6 inches longer than the LR2. The basic architecture is shared with the Evoque.
2015 Land Rover Discovery Sport Engine, Transmission And Drive
The Range Rover Evoque gave more than just the platform. Its engine and transmission are also used for the 2015 Land Rover Discovery Sport. The 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine delivers 240 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque. It will be mated with the aforementioned nine-speed automatic transmission which will send the power to the Haldex all-wheel drive. The fact that all four wheels are always in action is very important, but that’s not all of the off-road talents this SUV has.
Assistance Systems Which Make Discovery Sport’s Off-road Performance Superb
The 2015 Discovery Sport is equipped with a number of various driver assistance systems. Of course, the most popular is the Land Rover’s Terrain Response system. This feature is used to adjust all the vital aspects of the vehicle in accordance with the surface under the wheels. The 2015 Land Rover Discovery Sport may not be the most capable off-road SUV with the Land Rover logo, but thanks to the hill descent control, roll stability and dynamic stability control, engine drag torque control, gradient release control and electronic traction control there’s no much terrains which can’t be conquered. With ground clearance of 8.3 inches it can tackle the gradients of 45 degrees.
Interior And Optional Features
Inside the SUV’s cabin you can find a lot of leather. While the standard upholstery isn’t completely leather, the higher trims are coming with leather seats, door and dashboard. Every 2015 Discovery Sport has five interior color options, 5-inch TFT instrument panel display, rotary controls and other interesting features. Upscale trims have, aside from the leather upholstery, 8-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system which comes with great smartphone connectivity and fabulous mood lighting. The interior of the 2015 Land Rover Discovery Sport can be further improved in numerous ways by dealer add-ons.
