2015 Kia Soul EV Specs & Performance — Are You Surprised?

The 2015 Kia Soul EV attracted everyone’s attention. This year at the Chicago Auto Show, the 2015 Soul EV had an impressive premiere. It gained a lot of publicity thanks to its unique design, but more important, thanks to its specs. This electric vehicle is a compact crossover, but not the kind which could be often seen off the road. Its natural habitat is urban. It is designed to look great making sharp turns and swift maneuvers on busy city streets. That being said, no one can be surprised by the manufacturer’s decision to release it first in New York, New Jersey, Oregon, Maryland and, of course, California. The 2015 Kia Soul EV is made to be a prominent specimen of all the EVs and pride of the Kia Motors Corporation. It may not be the most beautiful vehicle in the world, it’s not the only EV around, it’s definitely not the most powerful compact crossover, but it’s undoubtedly interesting.

As for the 2015 Kia Soul EV specs, we should say the AC synchronous magnetic electric motor is able to deliver 109 horsepower and 210 lb-ft of torque, with a 27-kWh 96-cell lithium-ion polymer battery, constant-ratio single-speed transmission and front wheel drive. The battery is located under the floor, so its mass improves vehicle stability due to the lowered center of gravity. The 2015 Kia Soul EV range is 80-100 miles. According to some estimations, it will be able to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in less than 12 seconds.

A permanent trouble with electric vehicles is recharging. The 2015 Kia Soul EV recharge time is 24 hours using the conventional current. With 240-volt charger, it requires five hours. According to the available information, with 50-kW system, it is possible to recharge the battery to 80% in 33 minutes. There are three ports — two AC conventional and the third made for CHAdeMo public charging. CHAdeMo is coined from Charge de Move, which is a 480-vold direct current recharge system, which can charge the 2015 Soul EV’s battery in around 25 minutes. If you have a Kia dealership nearby, you can expect to have free recharging there, if they sell the Soul EV. As for the regenerative braking, there are Eco On and Eco Off options, which both have Drive and Brakes modes. The combination of the Eco On and Brakes can preserve 12% of kinetic energy. The manufacturer will make three charger brands available — Bosch, AeroVironment and Leviton.

The 2015 Kia Soul EV redesign is inspired by the previous generation of this compact crossover, but also with the Trackster concept. That’s why the new Soul EV got new grille, new rims and improved overall appearance. The roof is available only in white and blue. As for the interior, the 2015 Soul EV suffered certain changes. An interesting fact is that the manufacturer used 20 natural materials which are environment friendly. The 2015 Kia Soul EV safety is improved by the system which emits the sound when the vehicle is in motion at low speeds and in reverse drive. That way, it should prevent accidents due to the silent ride, which is common for all electric vehicles.

Like we said before, the 2015 Kia Soul EV will be available in New York, New Jersey, Oregon, Maryland and California first. It will be released this summer. The rest of the U.S. and the rest of the world won’t be able to buy this vehicle until the next year. The 2015 Kia Soul EV price is estimated around $30,000.
