2015 Jeep Renegade Specs — 21st Century Jeepster

The 2015 Jeep Renegade, which is also unofficially called the Jeepster, had its debut at the Geneva Auto Show this year. With exciting new moments, this American icon comes to stay. A lot of people were anxious whether the 2015 Renegade will be capable of inheriting the Jeepster tradition with dignity. Well, it’s based on the Fiat 500L platform and it is made in Italy. These facts were enough to raise suspicion about the new Jeepster. In order to prove that an apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, the 2015 Jeep Renegade has an advanced 4×4 all-wheel drive system available. This system is intentionally made with care so the new Jeepster will be able to perform well on all terrains. When not needed, the rear axle will be disconnected, so the fuel economy will be improved by sparing all-wheel drive for the situations when 4×4 is necessary. Yes, it has pretty high ground clearance and a superior 4×4 system, what the Jeep fans got isn’t just good off-road performance. The 2015 Renegade is a modern CUV, which will probably attract the younger audience. Truth be told, nobody expects to see this subcompact crossover in off-road adventures. It will probably be driven within urban environment.

2015 Jeep Renegade Platform

The platform which underpins the 2015 Renegade is the one which is used for the 500L, like we said before. It’s going to underpin the Renegade’s Italian counterpart, the 2016 Fiat 500X. Aside from the Fiat vehicles, this platform is developed to underpin Opel models, thanks to cooperation between Fiat and Opel. With almost no downsides, the Small platform, which is also known as SCCS (Small Common Components and Systems) is made of high-strength steel and it’s very adaptable. Although it’s primarily made with front-wheel drive in mind, it is capable to support all-wheel drive, too. Some sources say that this platform will be used as a base for some Chrysler models in the future.

2015 Jeep Renegade Exterior and Interior

As for the appearance, the 2015 Jeep Renegade will resemble its cousin, the Fiat 500L. However, it will have some details that will resemble the Patriot, only the Renegade’s overall feel will be much sportier, aggressive and dynamic. After all, this subcompact SUV, isn’t made to be traditional. The manufacturer’s decision to fight into this market segment means they had to make the new Jeepster competitive. We have to admit that, regarding the subcompact design, nobody’s better than Italians. It will share the platform with the Fiat 500X, a subcompact crossover version of the 500L. The 2015 Jeep Renegade will look pretty contemporary inside. The new interior is based on the Tek-Tonic design approach. This kind of design made the Renegade’s cabin full of useful, highly-functional commands along with overall elegance and harmony. The 2015 Renegade comes with updated UConnect and UConnect Access connectivity system. Every trim level will come with removable roof panel.

2015 Jeep Renegade Engine Options, Transmission and Drive

The 2015 Jeep Renegade engine options are quite satisfactory. There is a turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder, which delivers 168 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. More powerful engine option is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder, which can generate 184 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque. There is a diesel version, but it will probably be available in the European markets only. The Renegade diesel will be powered by a 1.3-liter turbodiesel engine. Maybe there will be a 0.9-liter TwinAir turbodiesel installed, too. As for the transmission, the 2015 Jeep Renegade will come with a six-speed manual gearshift, while there will be a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission available as an option. Although we expected all-wheel drive as a standard, that’s not going to happen. Front-wheel drive will be standard, while all-wheel drive will be optional.

2015 Jeep Renegade Release Date and Price

The new Jeepster, or how it’s officially called, the 2015 Jeep Renegade had its debut in Geneva. Its release date will be by the end of this year. As for the price, there’s no official information about that topic yet, but some estimations say the new Jeepster price will be competitive. It will probably cost around $19,000 for the entry version.
