2015 Fiat 500X Crossover Features: Is It Good Enough For USA?
Announced as an interesting addition to the Fiat range in the USA, the 2015 Fiat 500X was unveiled at the 2014 Paris Auto Show. This small crossover intends to, hopefully, have better sales than its predecessors: the Fiat 500 hatchback and Fiat 500L small MPV. With additional flare and a bit bolder style, the 2015 Fiat 500X is a crossover which should probably be a very tough competitor to the Mini Countryman, Chevy Trax and its close relative, the Jeep Renegade.
Currently, there’s no official information about the U.S.-spec 500X’s engine lineup. It’s speculated that it’s going to be powered by the same engines as the Renegade. If this appears to be true, than the 500X and the Renegade will have more in common than everyone expected. The 2015 Fiat 500X will be distributed in Europe by the end of the year, while the U.S. version will be released early next year.
2015 Fiat 500X Exterior and Style
The appearance of the 2015 Fiat 500X is very intriguing. It’s style heavily based on the Fiat 500, so the distinctive face of a stylish Italian hatchback will just have some tweaks to suit the character of the crossover. Of course, there are some design elements which make the 2015 500X look sportier and more dynamic.
It’s sculpted to be more muscular and bolder. The front fascia looks different thanks to the front bumper. On the opposite side, the rear bumper is designed in a similar manner. The 2015 Fiat 500X is taller than the 500 hatchback, but the plastic trim on the rocker panels and wheel arches significantly contribute to the crossover style.
It’s may seem strange that a vehicle whose inspiration was a small city car has high ground clearance and off-road exterior, but that’s what makes the 2015 500X so special. Below the curvy exterior, this crossover has the same platform as the Jeep Renegade. Those two were, actually, developed together, but their appearances don’t seem to have anything common at all.
The appearance of the 2015 Fiat 500X can be improved by choosing a perfect set of wheels — there are eight different wheel designs from 16″ to 18″. The automaker also offers twelve body colors to choose from. The crossover’s overall length is 167.3 inches. It’s 63 inches tall and 70.9 inches wide. These dimensions make it very spacious inside.
Interior Features and UConnect Infotainment
The cabin of the 2015 Fiat 500X resembles the 500L’s interior. It’s spacious so it can provide enough comfort for five occupants. The UConnect infotainment system will display its features on either a 5- or a 6.5-inch touchscreen. Needless to say, the infotainment system has great mobile devices connectivity.
Possible Engine Options
As we already said, it’s not clear which engines will be used for the U.S.-spec 2015 Fiat 500X. The European version is going to have four gasoline and three diesel engines offered. Across the pond, we expect a less diverse engine lineup. It’s speculated that the 2015 500X will share the engines with the Jeep Renegade. If those rumors turn out to be true, the compact crossover will be powered by a 1.4-liter four-cylinder with 160 horsepower and a 2.4-liter four-cylinder which delivers 184 horsepower.
2015 Fiat 500X Release and Price
The 2015 Fiat 500X is expected early in 2015. As for the price, it’s not official yet, but it’s speculated that the entry MSRP could be a bit less than $20,000.
