2015 Chevy Trax Review — Specs & Features

The 2015 Chevrolet Trax is a crossover which, thanks to its size and design, should attract younger audience. Initially, it wasn’t planned for the U.S. market. It was available in Canada, Mexico and numerous other markets, but the U.S. wasn’t on its map. Now, the 2015 Trax comes to engage in an interesting battle within the small crossover segment. It’s based on the Gamma platform, which underpins the Buick Encore. Unfortunately, there is only one engine option for the U.S.-spec 2015 Chevy Trax, but the installed 138-horsepower engine is quite satisfactory for this kind of vehicle. Like it’s expected, the 2015 Chevrolet Trax comes with three trims — LS, LT and LTZ. As for the appearance, the exterior of this crossover isn’t stunning, but looks quite satisfactory. Equipped with a lot of gadgets, the 2015 Chevy Trax will be a really entertaining hi-end crossover, which is already pretty attractive to all the technology fans. The 2015 Trax will be released in the U.S. by the end of the year.

2015 Chevy Trax Exterior — LS, LT & LTZ Trims

Although it appears to be among the most conservative vehicles within the market segment which aims younger audience, it shouldn’t worry the manufacturer, since it competes against vehicles such as Nissan Juke and Kia Soul, whose exterior design is nothing but extraordinary. The body of the 2015 Chevy Trax is 169 inches long and 70 inches wide. One of the most noticeable features of the body design is the height, which is pretty uncommon considering the other two dimensions and usual height of the subcompact vehicles. This crossover is 65.9 inches high. Its wheelbase is 101 inches long, while its track is 61 inches wide. The 2015 Trax has ground clearance 6.2 inches tall. Already mentioned trims — LS, LT and LTZ — bring cosmetic differences. The LS comes with 16-inch steel wheels, the LT with 16-inch alloy wheels and the LTZ brings a set of 18-inch alloy wheels. Those trims will bring different materials in the cabin, but the differences won’t be drastic.

2015 Chevy Trax Interior And Features

The interior of the 2015 Chevrolet Trax can provide enough comfort for four adults. The instrument panel is inspired by the one designed for the Chevrolet Sonic. The manufacturer thought about the cargo space, so the Trax provides 18.7 cubic feet of volume, but when the seatbacks are down, the cargo space is 48.4 cubic feet big. Aside from the rear seats, the back of the front passenger seat can be folded, too.

2015 Chevy Trax Gadgets

Since the 2015 Chevy Trax should attract tech-savvy drivers, it’s equipped by a lot of different gadgets and systems. It comes with MyLink connectivity and the latest OnStar 4G LTE telematics with Wi-Fi hotspot available. The center stack will have a 7-inch touchscreen. The 2015 Trax also comes with a great USB/iPod connectivity, the BringGo navigation, the SiriusXM satellite radio and Siri Eyes Free ready.

2015 Chevy Trax Safety Systems

In addition to the infotainment and convenience features, the safety systems of the 2015 Chevy Trax are very impressive, too. While the standard features such as a rear-view camera, electronic brake force distribution, brake assist and stability control, contribute to the overall safety and the behavior on the road, the passive safety isn’t neglected — there are ten airbags. A very useful feature, keyless entry, comes with every version of the 2015 Trax.

2015 Chevy Trax Powertrain — Engine, Transmission, EPA Fuel Economy & Drive

The 2015 Chevy Trax has a turbocharged 1.4-liter inline-four DOHC engine under the hood. It can deliver 138 horsepower and 148 lb-ft of torque. There are no other engine options. This engine will be paired with a Hydra-Matic 6T40 6-speed automatic gearbox. As for the EPA fuel economy, the 2015 Chevy Trax can make 26 mpg/city and 34 mpg/highway with front-wheel drive. Thanks to this powertrain, the Trax can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in slightly less than 10 seconds, while its maximum speed is estimated at 110 mph.
