2014 Ford Edge – Changes, Trims, Price, Release

The new 2014 Ford Edge crossover, a significant part of the Ford crossover and SUV family, will come slightly redesigned, but it will have some important changes too. It’s differences from the other Ford crossovers and SUVs are the result of the sales goals the manufacturer tries to accomplish. It’s targeted market segment are urban people with small families, so it is made to suit their needs. Despite the fact that 2014 Ford Edge is a two-row crossover with five seats, only four passengers can enjoy a full comfort during a ride. However, three children can comfortably sit in the second row.

The most noticeable change is a front redesign, where the new, even bigger, grille has a dominant role. Also, the new headlights and fog lamps make the 2014 Ford Edge looks more aggressive. The new colors which are offered are Oxford White, Sunset Metallic and Ingot Silver. Truth be told, Ingot Silver, an option for the Sport trim level, isn’t exactly new. It could be chosen as a color of 2013 Ford Edge Sport. The front-row seats give a great back support, important for a long journeys and a plenty of legs space. As we mentioned before, the second-row seats can offer enough comfort and space to two adult passengers since the 2014 Ford Edge doesn’t have enough rear legroom. The second-row seats can fold to increase the cargo space from 32.2 to 68.9 cubic feet. The central place on the dashboard is occupied by 8-inch touchscreen, MyFord Touch system. Also, as a part of MyFord Touch system, you get LCD display screens next to the speedometer. MyFord Touch is a standard in all new Ford models, but some drivers find it’s menu confusing and difficult to use. If you choose any other model than basic, you will get a connectivity system based on Bluetooth technology and use it to make phone calls and play music by voice commands or tasters placed on the steering wheel.

The new 2014 Ford Edge will be equipped by 3.6-liter V-6 engine as a standard. This engine has 253 lb-ft of torque and 285 horsepower. It’s fuel efficiency with front wheel drive will be 19 mpg/city and 27 mpg/highway. All-wheel drive will make the numbers go down: 18 mpg/city and 25 mpg/highway. Besides this engine, the manufacturer offers four-cylinder turbocharged 2.0 EcoBoost engine which has 240 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque. There’s no all-wheel drive paired with this engine, so the fuel efficiency with front-wheel drive is 21 mpg city and 30 mpg highway. The most impressive engine built in the 2014 Ford Edge is reserved for the Sport trim level only. It is V-6 with 3.7-liters, 305 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. It’s fuel economy with front-wheel drive will be 19 mpg city and 26 mpg highway. With all-wheel drive, it will make 17 mpg city and 23 mpg highway. The transmission will be 6-speed manual, but there’s an info that the manufacturer will offer an automatic gearbox too.

There will be four trim levels offered: SE, SEL, Limited and Sport.

The SE trim level offers 17-inch wheels. It has a cruise control, air conditioning, power mirrors, locks and windows, adjustable steering wheel and a sound system with six speakers.

The SEL trim will give you 18-inch wheels, SecuriCode keypad security system, Bluetooth voice commanded system and an automatic climate control with two zones. You can also get rear parking sensors, automatic headlights, a satellite radio, a power driver’s seat and a leather-covered steering wheel to make your ride in the new 2014 Ford Edge more pleasant.

The Sport trim level of the new 2014 Ford Edge is the same as the Limited. The differences as 22-inch wheels, a special sport suspension and lights style are not that big compared to the biggest difference: 3.7-liter V6 engine.

The price of the 2014 Ford Edge will vary because of the big differences among the trim levels and engine options. As far as we know, the price of 2014 Ford Edge will be between nearly $29000 for the SE trim and $38500 for the Sport trim. The new 2014 Ford Edge will be available in a few months.
